South Beach

South Beach has a special feel to it and is a beach that many of us visit from Tofino on special occasions every year. We always go on Boxing Day with friends. We talk, walk the beach, touch the rocks and let that special feeling wash over us.

We don’t know what it is but South Beach touches us in ways that no other beach does.

And we’re not the only ones who say that. Many locals have a special connection to this beach. We may all have our own reasons for being drawn here but when we see each other at South Beach we smile and nod to say “We feel it too.”

In the summer the waves wash in over the sandy beach.

In storm-watching season the waves crash over the rocks on all sides.

The beach juts out at the south end to a rocky outcrop.

The trees seem small but they have endured the winds for a long time and anything that can stand up to ocean winds holds a special place in our hearts.

The three rocks that stand guard at the entrance to South Beach.

We always greet the three rocks at the entrance to South Beach. It seems to us that the rocks keep watch over you while you are at South Beach. Kind of like friendly guardians watching to see if you feel the majesty of this little beach and bay. We can’t put our finger on it but we always feel protected here and for a while after we leave. Maybe that’s why we keep coming back. See if you feel it too. (Our secret: we greet the rocks at the beginning and thank them as we leave, giving them a touch to feel their soft smoothness and steadfast solidity. Hey don’t knock it, it works.)
