More About the Performers:
Although they call Vancouver Island home, these gifted song-crafters live mostly on the road, performing to an ever-widening fan base. They are skilled & versatile musicians; considered by their peers to be in the "journeyman" class of their trade.
Saskia hails from the Netherlands and Darrel was born on the Great Plains, so prairie and coastal cultures runs through their veins. They write about Canadian life & culture; stories of Louis Riel, war brides, journeys across the sea, mining towns, dance girls, voyageurs & rodeos; all set to intriguing melodies and backed by some of Canada's finest musicians.
They have toured extensively with Gary Fjellgaard for the last 10 years, performed with Valdy, Nathan Tinkham, and have notables like Daniel Powter, Darby Mills, Steve Dawson, Ken Hamm, Bill Hicks, Nathan Tinkham and Nolan Murray appearing on their 9 CD's.
They were awarded Top Folk /Roots Album in Holland, nominated for Artist, Album, and Male Vocalist of the year by SCMA, received Top 5 People's choice awards, and remain perennial favorites on CBC, CKUA and Indie folk/roots charts in Europe and Community Radio Stations throughout Canada and the US.

Every year from late April through May, flocks of sandpipers, plovers, whimbrels, and many other shorebirds pass through the Tofino area. The combination of expansive mudflats and long sandy beaches create an ideal habitat for these migratory shorebirds. During the week leading up to the Festival, The Raincoast Society holda lantern-making workshops so you can create your own original lantern.
Get Involved with the Raincoast Education Society Lantern Fest!
Bring a Lantern! Make a paper lantern to bring to the festival (see workshop details below)! If you’re just coming in to town that weekend, don’t worry, we do have simple lanterns for sale at the festival.
Kids – join the Lantern and Costume Parade! Children are encouraged to arrive early and gather in the Children’s Pavilion in the gardens between 7:00 and 7:30 pm. At 7:30 pm, we’ll parade through the gardens in front of all the adoring fans!
Volunteer! We need lots of help setting up during the day, as well as with ticket sales, lantern lighting and other jobs during the festival. Wear a costume! Anything goes, but magical wizards, warlocks, witches, fairies, and tree nymphs are popular themes! Tell all your friends to come out in support of the Raincoast Education Society!
