Tofino Library Information
The Tofino library is part of 37 branch libraries on Vancouver Island, Haida Gwaii
(the Queen Charlotte Islands) and the Central Coast. The librarians Linda and
Barb welcome you to visit the Tofino library for great reading books and magazines,
talking books, cds, dvds and public internet access.

Joining The Tofino Library
If you live or pay property taxes in the Tofino service area, you can become a
member by applying for a library card. There is no charge.
Obtaining a Tofino Library Card
To receive your card, present personal ID and proof of residence to staff at any
Vancouver Island Regional Library branch. Your library card entitles you to borrow
materials from any VIRL branch. Just present your library card each time materials
are borrowed, requested or renewed.
Child's Library Card
Library cards for children under the age of 13 are available. A parent or guardian
must take responsibility for material borrowed by the child.
Books by Mail
People living in remote areas within the VIRL service area may borrow library
items by mail if they do not have access to a branch or if there are circumstances
which make the use of the local branch impractical. All postage is paid by the
library and books are checked out for 6 weeks to allow for mailing time. For more

Library Materials
The VIRL shares its resources among all 37 branch libraries in the system. Al
materials listed in the catalogue are not in the Tofino library but most are available
to you on request.
Loan Periods
Most Materials: 21 days
High Demand Materials: 14 days
Compact Discs: 7 days
Designated Reference Items: 3 days
Renewals
You may renew most materials at your branch, by phone or online at www.virl.bc.ca
to a maximum of 2 renewals per item. If an item has been requested an item it
cannot be renewed.
Courtesy reminders are available via email to remind you to return items that
are overdue. Sign up for email reminders by contacting the Tofino library or entering
your email address into your account on the Vancouver Island Regional Library
website - www.VIRL.bc.ca
Returns
You may return library materials to any VIRL branch. Book drops are provided for
after-hours returns.
Donations
Your library is registered as a charity for income tax purposes. If you would
like to make a donation, please talk with the library staff. If you need an income
tax recipt for donated books, you must have them professionaly appraised.
Your library welcomes your donations of books and other collection materials.
Please contact the Tofino library before bringing your donation to the library. |
