Recycling Tips:
Reuse before you Recyle
Reuse those plastic bags again and again. You know those light plastic bags you
get your veggies in at the store, take them back and use them again. Share your
paper and magazines with someone else so they don't have to pick up additional
copies.
Recyclable Plastics other than milk
jugs
Clean and store at home until you take a trip to a community that does recycle
these platics. Then throw them in your vehicle and drop them off at those depots.
If your friends who are visiting live in such a community ask them to take the
plastics with them when they leave.
Setup a Sorting Area
It's always a drag to get to the depot and have to sort through your recycling
there. Setup an area in your garage or carport where you can pre-sort the materials.
It'll make your recycling much faster and less of a hassle.
Just like your compost bucket...
Have a small recycling bin in your kitchen so it's easy to recycle. Rinse out
food cans, bottles, etc. right there and place into the small kitchen bin. When
it fills up simply take it out to your sorting area.
Make it a Family Affair
Don't put the recycling onto one person. Educate everyone in the house. Have
them participate by cleaning material, removing labels and putting them into
the recycling bin. Working together makes it easy, having just one
person doing recycling duty makes it a chore.
Wait until you have a full load before
heading to the depot
If you are driving to the depot make sure you have a full load and try to make
the trip when you are going out to do other things. And when you're dropping your
material off, shut off your vehicle, don't let it idle. If you bike up to the
depot, make lots of small trips and get into great shape!
If your vehicle is going to idle for more than 10 seconds turn
it off!
That's the amount of gas it'll take to restart your vehicle.

Every little bit helps!
If you see a piece of plastic, paper or cardboard
on a Tofino beach or trail - pick it up and put it in the next trash can.
Sometimes things fall out of our pockets and we don't notice.
By picking up another piece of trash we can help compensate for what we may drop.

Keep the Tofino sunrise beautiful
- pick up a piece of litter and recycle!
