A-frame   A wave that breaks both left and right causing an "A" of whitewash.
Backside   Riding with your back to the wave.
Barrel   A fast wave producing a tube, referred to as tubular in extreme surf dude lingo.
Choppy   Rough water caused by wind (usually onshore) and opposite of glassy.
Closeout   A wave that breaks the length of the beach at once.
Cox   Cox Bay.  The turnoff can be found at the "Pacific Rim Resort" sign about 10km out of Tofino. Usually the beach with the biggest surf.
Flat   No surf.
Frontside   Riding with your front to the wave.
Glassy   Smooth water, resembling "glass" caused by no wind, or light offshore wind. Ideal surf conditions.
Grom   A young surfer.
North   North Chesterman's beach.
Left   A wave that breaks from left to right when looking from shore
Long Beach   A beautiful stretch of beach about 20km from Tofino, in the Pacific Rim National Park. Parking pass required for lots. Can be purchased on site for $8 a day.

Onshore Wind   Wind blowing from the shore to the ocean.

turnoff. A long beach that usually brings in a good size wave. Closest
big surf beach from Ucluelet. Also in the Pacific Rim National Park.
