Cultural Heritage Festival – September

Cultural Heritage Festival – September

This is a young festival that celebrates the artistic voices of our community. Each year the theme of this festival changes and in 2014 we are proud to announce that the theme is “Fishing the West Coast”.  With a rich and diverse present day fishing community and history, we know that this theme will present an eclectic and insightful look into this lifestyle and historical significance of this industry through art.
We will explore all art forms associated with the fishing traditions of the West Coast and that celebrate the historical relevance of these traditions which include the past and present Nuu-chah-nulth, Japanese, and European heritages, as well as the locally evolved commercial fishing industry. We will exhibit carved canoes, carved paddles, carved implements, salmon carvings, paintings of boats and archived photos. Stories, poetry, songs and music that tell a story of the area’s fishing culture will also be presented.
This year’s program will include an exciting line up of fundraising events,  Historical Photography Exhibition, Fine Art Exhibition, Museum Exhibit, Film Screening, Storytelling, and more..
